Each weekend morning, my kitchen is consumed by the buzz of coffee beans being ground, their aroma as they mix with hot water, followed by the shift in tone to the gurgling frothing milk. I rush to see what my father has concocted today.
The frothy milk atop the cappuccino takes the shape of a dolphin. I sit down next to my sister and take a satisfactory sip. Sipping my father’s homemade cappuccinos has become a family ritual on weekends: we prepare a leisurely breakfast and sit around the table sharing stories and laughter.
Even when my father is traveling, I like to take my time and not rush my breakfast. I make the cappuccino myself and chat with my mother and sister. I then feel the day is starting well and can be organized as I can run over the plans for tests, classes, and essays calmly.
I plan to bring both my cappuccino abilities with my openness to chat, listen and plan. I hope to share this tradition with my new friends in Notre Dame - a delicious aroma and taste to start the day with friendly conversations and plans for our new classes. First, I must practice my dolphins!
