Columbia stands out as a name synonymous with success. Every facet of the University oozes a drive towards this mystical aspiration, from the towering statue of Athena located in the classical Low Memorial Library to the electric manifestation of ambition in the very air.

Yet, when seeking success, one should always have a definition of this intangible quality, and Columbia’s is clearly enlightenment. Columbia’s core curriculum is the first milestone in this journey for every undergraduate on campus. A holistic education encompassing the sciences, humanities, history, and writing, it ensures no student will leave without an ability to comfortably perform in a wide variety of areas - allowing me access to a fluid, mercurial expedition into the professional world. Grants such as the Kluge Fellows Summer Research Program will help me apply the knowledge gained from lecturers such as Professor Stephanie Ramsey and embark on a personalised path of academic development.

Columbia’s focus on success extends beyond the classroom and into all aspects of student life. Groups such as the Bach society will allow me to engage with my artistic side while hearing different cultural perspectives on music, and I can take in countless conflicting opinions at the Columbia Political Union. Meanwhile, Columbia’s location in the heart of Manhattan - the birthplace of the American Dream - infuses the atmosphere with a sense of capability that will perpetually remind me of the strength of my hopes and aspirations.

I look forward to experiencing everything that Columbia has to teach me, whether it's manifest in its classes or the minds of its students. Here, amidst this atmosphere of inquiry and diversity of experiences and ideas, I am confident that I can succeed.
